How do I backup the data of my Zephyr server?

Problem

I want to backup my data on my Zephyr server. How can I do this?

Fix

There are two ways to backup data: A complete backup and a hot backup.

 

Here’s a simple procedure to backup and restore your data. We recommend automating it with a cron-type job and run it once a day. The backup shuts down the server momentarily so it is best to schedule it when no one is working. 

Creating a backup:
1) Make sure you are physically logged into the machine on which Zephyr is installed.

2) While logged on to the Zephyr Server machine as an administrator user, right click the command line application and “Run as Administrator.” (For Windows Vista, 7, Server 2008) Navigate to C:\<Zephyr Install Dir>\backup_restore\bin

3) Execute the file backupAll.bat and follow the on-screen instructions.

If you are running Zephyr 4.1 or Zephyr 4.5 (Build 6967) or Zephyr 4.6, 4.7,4.8:

open a command line and run: backupAll.bat dir-path y.

This will allow you to run a full backup including attachments. If you are running Zephyr 3.6 or 4.0, run the command:

backupAll.bat. Store this backup file where the Upgrade Utility is located.

This will backup your Zephyr databases, repository, license file and configuration files.

 

Restoring the backup:

1) Make sure you are physically logged into the machine on which Zephyr is installed.

2) While logged on to the Zephyr Server machine as an administrator user, right click the command line application and “Run as Administrator.” (For Windows Vista, 7, Server 2008) Navigate to C:\<Zephyr Install Dir>\backup_restore\bin

3) Execute the file restoreAll.bat and follow the on-screen instructions.

This will restore (overwriting existing files) your Zephyr databases, repository, license file and configuration files.

By default, hot backups run every twelve hours and backup data without shutting down the server.

To manually run a hot backup or adjust the scheduling:

While logged on as an administrator, navigate to the Administration Application in Department Area. Select the System Admin Tab. Here you can enable/disable hot backups, kick off a manual hotback and schedule how often they run.
